Home Based Business – A Track To Run On in Network Marketing

Our friend Julie posed some questions concerning a track to run on for a brand new person getting started in a home based business. I would like to address that issue with a new post if I may…

In terms of developing a home based business, always remember that the weakest links in our networks are always the brand-new person. If we want to establish a large, long term solid network we must provide the means and methods to help the new-comers become successful and build a long term residual income.

It is really important for leaders of their home based business and team, to understand the “mind-set” of a new person. This sounds simple, but in my case, I was a “Newbie” over 10 years ago. I do things now that seem like second nature today, but back then they were a stretch to say the least. So what is the “Newbie Mind-set”? Hmmm – Good question to ponder.

For NWM, generally most new people that get involved in a new home based business really come in with a wait and see type attitude. The fear of something new is very real. It can seem overwhelming at first. So much to learn, and so many different opinions on how to succeed. Can we blame them? Develop a product testimony, learn the power of network marketing and how to share the message of free-enterprise, learn how to share our testimony, learn how to develop a winning attitude that attracts, learn how to invite people to a call, what are our competitors strong and weak points, learn how to support people as a sponsor, learn how to BE a friend and shake hands online, learn all about the products and company, learn the history of network marketing and why many people will be negative, learn to be OK with rejection, learn how to build and organize a contact base, learn how to speak publicly, learn how to build our why and what we truly want – freedom to choose and residual income.

At various times, highly confident, extroverted people come into the industry and are going to show the world and do it their way in building the largest home based business in their respective company. These types learn some of the hardest but best lessons.

A track to follow provides the new-person with a step by step approach to building a home based business. In my opinion, the most important first step of said track is proper expectations. Network Marketing is definitely NOT a get-rich-quick scheme. Rather it takes diligence in building a part time or full time residual income. The very best way to be in profits in the beginning is through a customers and having up line support to do 3 way calls to business interested people.

New-comers MUST be explained clearly what they can expect and how much energy and effort is required to build a full time residual income for their home based business. The best systems and structures will fail if people have unreasonable expectations. This is a critical part of real leadership, both from the distributor base as well as the company. (Some companies put people in their magazines that have gotten to a super level of income very quickly, but if you research the facts you will find they either had Networking experience and contacts or a very strong sphere of influence in their personal life. These stories deflate many newbies.)

What Newbies need to do when first getting started in their home based business to be successful should be part of the team vision and culture. The vision becomes the best track to run on in many ways. There are many ways to succeed as Julie alluded to; 1 – 1 coaching, leads, advertising, warm-list, mail outs, shaking hands online etc and social networking. If the vision is real, it will accommodate all methods. For instance, we have as a foundational belief in our team vision statement that all relationships should be based upon respect and adding value to others. If one does that, they will not hype or over-sell something. They will always be truthful and help others as best as they can. These values lead to the system and structure that best supports the team. Shaking hands online is easy for the “Home Based Business Team” as they are sincere in their intent. No need to give them a list and script etc, just lead by example….

Part of what we must do as we start our journey of building a home based business is to build a list of contacts, friends that we have spoken to on the phone and that we will continue to follow up with until they join us or eliminate themselves. It takes at least 150 people, generally speaking, on that list before one starts to recruit from the list on a regular basis. This takes time to build. I see that time as an advantage as people then have the opportunity to increase their knowledge and experience, working relationships and comprehension of what our team and industry are all about, while they are building and developing their list.

Many people in our industry promote their magical “duplicatable system”. We have all seen them. Some people buy into the hype. A magical system doesn’t exist. What can exist and is duplicatable is the “culture” (as I like to call it.) that develops from an inspiring vision. There are many examples in and out of Network Marketing. Dexter Yager was successful at creating this culture and vision, although I question his methods because of the abuse of the tools program. It was a vision either way and it built the biggest Network in history. Sam Walton at Wal-Mart developed a vision and culture very successfully.

Our company has an incredible culture and vision to build a long term and viable home based business in building a long term residual income.

So, in my opinion, the best track to run on is the “culture” that develops around an inspiring vision statement. Systems, tools and structure etc will continue to always evolve and change, but the culture just goes on and on as it is all-encompassing, promoting personal development, striving, support, excellence etc.

One of the lessons that we have to learn is that success takes time. Unless we begin with an incredible sphere of influence it will take time to develop a list of 150 plus people that respect us. Consistently working it, getting the exposure necessary and developing the skills necessary all take time. We sow in faith knowing that if we persist we will achieve our goals. This is difficult as we must work without seeing tangible results despite rejection and set-backs. The encouragement and support needed comes from the team, “All for one and one for all” friends helping friends to be free.

Make it a great Day!
