Internet Home Based Business Tips: Safe Computing
Protect Your Computer! This is a absolute must if you are operating
an Internet Home Based Business, it is your lifeblood and therefore
your most valuable resource.
Your computer is the lifeblood of your internet home based business.
You need to ensure that it remains operational and does not get
infected with viruses or any of the other malware that is prevalent
on the internet today, such as spyware, adware and trojans.
Here some tips to help you protect your computer so that you will not
lose this most important aspect of your internet home based business:
1) Make sure you back up all your files on a regular basis. There are
many online backup services you can subscribe to, or you can purchase
any one of a number of good backup software packages. And remember,
the cost of doing this is a tax deduction since you are doing it for
your internet home based business.
2) If you are using Windows, make sure to install all updates from
Microsoft. You should set your system so that you have to review the
updates before installation.
3) If you are using Windows XP, be sure to set a system restore point
before you install anything new. This includes the regular updates
from Microsoft.
4) Install a good anti virus and anti-malware package, and make sure
to update its database on a regular basis.
5) Install a good firewall and use it. Do not depend on the Windows
firewall – it has a number of security holes. The Windows XP firewall
is slightly better, but you need a firewall which monitors both
incoming and outgoing traffic.
6) Never open email attachments from anyone you are not expecting,
even if it comes from a friend. Check with the sender first to make
sure it is legitimate. In particular, if you get any email greeting
cards, do not open the attachment under any circumstances. Even the
ones from legitimate companies have now been hijacked by hackers to
spread viruses and trojans.
7) If you use traffic exchanges or visit a lot of questionable sites,
consider acquiring some sandbox software. This will isolate whatever
happens in your browser from your computer, so that anything that gets
installed without your permission will not affect your PC. There is
some very good free sandbox software available.
If you implement these 7 strategies or at least most of them you will
ensure that your Internet Home Based Business will not become the
victim of hackers or suffer from major computer problems.
